Help save postal service
You may have heard that the U.S. Postal Service lost money this year. Here are the facts:
The Postal Service has been paying billions to prefund retiree health benefits. This is unique in the business world. Ninety-four percent of the 2012 USPS losses are from this pre-funding requirement.
Postal employees are fighting Congress. One bill, H.R 1351, to save the Postal Service sits idle while another, H.R. 2309, would destroy the service.
Letters cost 45 cents regardless of where you live? That’s the cheapest rate in the world. Every house, same cost. Why would someone want to destroy this? Big money.
It’s no secret that letter mail volume has dropped, but the parcel business is booming. Amazon, eBay, etc., use the U.S. mail because we deliver cheaper six days a week.
We have had rallies, meetings, demonstrations. Now it’s your turn to help. Congress has refused to do the right thing and pass a reform bill that will help your letter carriers continue doing what they do best, deliver your mail. Tell your representative to help or get out of the way.
