Left without refreshments

As a longtime fan of local sports and advocate of youth sports, it is with much displeasure to note how poorly our city Parks and Recreation Department represented themselves this past weekend.

Spokane was host to the A.S.A. Western 10U B National Championships being held at the Merkel complex this past week. Thirty-two teams were involved, with over 20 teams from California and one from Hawaii.

Most teams consist of 12 to 14 players with coaching staff, parents, siblings and others in attendance.

On Sunday with the local temp being in the mid- to upper 90s, teams were looking for food and refreshment that was to be available from our local Parks Department concession stand, which doesn’t allow outside food or beverages.

Without warning, the concession stand closed 3 1/2 hours before tournament’s end, leaving all in attendance with no water or food for the teams.

Poor representation for our city!
