It’s Fair Time!

Facing a wall of framed memories in the fairgrounds’ photo exhibition, Kay Van Cleave conjured her own recollections from a lifetime of visiting the North Idaho Fair and Rodeo.

Parking that cost 15 cents in the ‘50s. Peeking through the fence to watch rodeos that, she admitted, just plain stunk decades ago.

Things have evolved on the fairgrounds, she said.

“When we were kids, the fair was just animal booths and tractors,” said Van Cleave, now superintendent of quilting at the annual fair. “Now it’s a mixture of everything.”    More info plus fair details can be viewed here .

When I was a girl, we went through the North gate and ate chicken first, then worked our way through the buildings from west to east, ending in front of the pellet stoves where Dad parked himself while I rode rides.  Now we enter through the east gate, eat ribs, and decide where to go.  Do you have a routine approach when it comes to the fair? What is the “must do” on the list?
