Planely scene: A Southwest Airlines flight takes off from Spokane International Airport on Tuesday. Work on the airport’s main runway is scheduled to be finished within the next 10 days. Work is also being performed on Fairchild Air Force Base runways. A few Air Force tankers are based at Spokane International, while the rest are flying out of Moses Lake. (Christopher Anderson)

Drivers picking up someone at Spokane International Airport have a new amenity to make the trip easier.

The airport last month opened a free new parking lot along West Airport Drive that is designated for cellphone users who are picking up passengers.

Drivers can pull into the lot and wait for a call from the arriving passenger when they are ready for pickup at the terminal curb. The parking lot is on the righthand side of inbound Airport Drive about a quarter mile from the terminal. Todd Woodard, airport spokesman, said the 40-car lot is already getting a fair amount of use. Normally, there are eight to 10 drivers waiting for calls, he said. More here . Mike Prager, SR
