Keep music in schools
Many schools have suffered from the tragic consequences of budget cuts. This means students have lost everything from physical education to art. The most important subject many lost is music. Although budget cuts are hard to handle, it’s not OK to take away music because it inhibits students’ chances to learn, and the ability of improving everything from test scores to performance skills. It is helpful in so many areas of life and school.
Music theory and other related topics are important as life skills, but it’s also proved to dramatically increase math grades. It’s understandable that many non-core subjects would have to be removed with budget cuts, but music provides so much education and opportunities for students that there is absolutely no reason to take it from our schools.
In addition, music is an important part of society and culture. It teaches history and tells stories. Music has a way of tying itself into all other subjects important to every child’s development. Schools could use music as a way to teach other subjects as well to add to its importance.
Budget cuts are a devastating reality. Important to everyone, music should never be removed from our education.
