Recalls reflect electorate
I strongly disagree with Ike Bailey’s statement (“Recall Sullivan, not Tucker, Dec. 25) that we “lost a great mayor to this woman.” As I am not a Spokane city voter, I did not pay attention to Shannon Sullivan’s campaign against Jim West; I only read some of her statements about how her son needed a role model in a mayor, and how the mayor had failed him.
I considered those remarks stupid enough not to follow up on Sullivan’s initiative. The fact that she persuaded enough people to recall West reflects not on her, but on the voters who agreed with her emotional yet nonsensical argumentation. And that is not her fault!
We can easily recall Sullivan if we give up the pleasantness of considering politics and voting as entertainment, spend time researching topics, and take upon ourselves the painful task of analyzing situations and solutions. Then the Sullivans of the world (and, yes, the media manipulators) will have no chance, and it is all up to us to decide.
