Need to control borders
Now that the Supreme Court justices have agreed to hear the case against Arizona state’s new immigration enforcement laws, they will be making the determination as to whether such laws can be the prerogative of individual states or solely under the jurisdiction of the federal government. Noting that Arizona’s action was the result of the federal government’s inaction in enforcing its own federal laws, I would like to make a parallel analogy.
If the military forces of a foreign country were landing on the beaches of Washington, Oregon and California, and the federal government refused to send the U.S. military to repel the invaders, wouldn’t the governors of those states at least have the right to call out their respective National Guard units to confront the enemy?
Isn’t that exactly what Arizona and the other states are doing by empowering their state branches of law enforcement to confront the violators of our national sovereignty that the federal government refuses to challenge?
A country without control of its borders is not a sovereign nation. It’s a free-for-all!
