Questions about job creation
On her website, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers says, “I support policies that empower the private sector – especially small businesses – to create jobs and spur economic growth. Small businesses are responsible for 70 percent of America’s jobs.”
When I read this, I’m left with a burning question that generates more questions: How many U.S. jobs do small businesses provide in proportion to their revenues and federal taxes paid in comparison to publicly owned businesses (corporations)? In light of the billions of dollars in profits and chief executive officer compensation packages that have been the subject of national and international scrutiny, it seems disproportionate that small businesses are providing the bulk of the jobs in America. Of that 70 percent, I’d like to know how many U.S. jobs are created in proportion to foreign jobs, distinguishing between small businesses and publicly owned corporations.
