Henry: Partisan Politics? Meh
In the Moscow-Pullman Daily News, Henry Johnston writes: “I was accused this spring by local Republicans of being overly critical of the party in some of my previous writings. Having thought about it, I’ve asked myself, if
I were a “real Republican,” what exactly would I be supporting? I’d be fighting tooth and nail to protect an unborn fetus until birth and then cut funding to the very program that cares for said child, leaving the parents to fend for themselves. I’d use terms such as “personal responsibility,” while at the same time blocking ethics reforms for elected officials who haven’t paid taxes since Bill Clinton was president. I’d be in favor of closing the primary election via litigation and then sticking the bill for said litigation to the taxpayers. I would have been railroaded into supporting a rather inconsequential tax cut instead of fully restoring funding to protect Idaho’s most vulnerable citizens. And I’d be in the majority party of a state that ranks 50th in per-pupil education funding. After some serious thinking, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m neither Republican nor Democrat. I’m an independent who has no use for party politics when it comes to making responsible decisions in government.”

Question: Are you more/less/same involved in party politics today than you were at the beginning of President Barack Obama’s term?
