Cougar Attacks Lewiston Area Horse
A hound hunter is attempting to track a mountain lion believed responsible for attacking and nearly killing a
horse pastured along Lindsay Creek just outside Lewiston’s city limits.
Dyna, an 8-year-old bay mare owned by Bret Christensen of Lewiston, is being treated at Lewiston Veterinary Clinic, where it will undergo surgery once it is stablilized. Her right shoulder was mangled and the rest of her body was left with deep scratches in the attack, investigated and confirmed by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
“The marks on the horse indicate it was a lion,” said Mark Hill, senior conservation officer with the department at Lewiston. Hill said a kill permit has been issued for the cougar and he arranged for a hunter to track the animal with hounds. Christensen discovered Dyna’s injury Sunday evening and believes the attack took place earlier that day/

Question: Are you concerned that predators like cougars and wolves are moving closer to urban areas?
