Law does not discriminate
Ben Oakley, with all due respect, this quote is completely inaccurate: (In reference to the July 20 response you made regarding same-sex marriage) “Also, the bill that passed the Legislature earlier this year was similar to other bills passed in other states, which does not protect the religious freedoms of individuals, churches and businesses in our state that now can be subject to civil lawsuits.”
The bill does have protections for churches and religious organizations. Individuals and businesses, per previously existing state law, cannot discriminate based on sexual orientation. It is a misrepresentation of the bill to make it sound like the bill takes away a right to discriminate that does not exist.
It is fine to disagree with the premise of same-sex marriage based on your faith, but it is not fine to try to change the debate by making these misrepresentations. Your reputation depends on the accuracy of your statements and the integrity with which you make them.
