In a steady drizzle, first-grader Jack Boecher, left, digs a hole for a his pumpkin seedling while Kara Carleton, right, gives instructions at the Community Roots farm in Dalton Gardens Tuesday. Dalton Elementary first-graders each planted a pumpkin at the farm, an outreach of the Kootenai Environmental Alliance, which provides healthy food to the farm’s subscribers. The children will return in the fall to pick their pumpkins in October. Cameron Esser, center, said “I don’t like playing farmer.
