Freezing For A Great Cause

That’s SR buddy Alison Boggs directing traffic during the swim portion of Ironman Coeur d’Alene Sunday. She writes: “I volunteered until the end of the swim which was totally awesome but nearly broke my heart when you watch people struggling to get there by the 9:20 cutoff but then not make it. The spirit of jubilation and party that existed among the volunteers during the whole swim portion immediately turned sad and pretty somber seeing the faces of those athletes who worked so hard only to miss the cutoff by seconds or minutes. After taking a hot shower in the S-R building, I went back out on the course and tracked my friend Tom Aylward, who I wrote the six-month series about, until he dropped out about 3 hours before the bike cutoff time. He just didn’t think he’d be able to do the second loop on Highway 95 but he gave it a valiant effort. Congrats to all the athletes!” (Christa Hazel photo special to Huckleberries Online)
