Hammes: An Orphan Reporters Love

If only real orphans, you know n the kind that lack fur, sharp teeth and the instinct to kill n received so much attention. The good news, of course, is the little wolf pup has found a home. And a family, according to news reports n of which there has been no shortage. News reports n not families. And that brings us back to our original point. For those who missed it (a difficult endeavor given the widespread media infatuation with this story) a family on vacation picked up what they believed was a puppy while on a camping trip near Ketchum last month. The couple called police to ask what to do with the cute little puppy. The police, fully aware that there is no shortage of cute little homeless puppies - and absolutely certain there will continue to be ample supply of cute little homeless puppies - showed good sense and passed the buck. They told the couple to call the local veterinarian. The vet took one look at the cute little homeless puppy and decided it was neither a puppy nor homeless. The critter was actually a wolf/ Dan Hammes , St. Maries Gazette Record. More here .

Question: Why were we so fixated on the story of the found wolf pup?
