Inland Northwest Land Trust needs volunteers for Latah Creek restoration

The Inland Northwest Land Trust has some excellent volunteer opportunities coming up that will help restoration plantings along Latah Creek on properties conservedby INLT. INLT is not only working to protect the estimated 6 miles of stream that flow through these properties from development and further degradation, but also to restore the riparian zones and enhance stream water quality.

In 2011, the Department of Ecology along with the Spokane County Conservation District produced a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) report identifying 11 issues that needed resolution to improve water quality within the Hangman Creek watershed. Of those issues, INLT and its volunteers have looked at three goal for working on these projects.

1. Increase bankstability and prevent further erosion
2. Providegreater wildlife habitat through diversifying plant species
3. Decrease solar radiation by shading the stream
