Edit: Another Senate Ethics Lapse
I n the Idaho Senate, there is no off-season for ethical lapses. The latest nominee for the traveling “What-was-this-senator-thinking?” trophy is Cottonwood Republican Sheryl Nuxoll. The first-term lawmaker decided to take advantage — and we do mean take advantage — of an internal rule that allows senators to spend up to $2,000 of taxpayer money sending out mailings. Nuxoll drafted a letter. But what was she thinking?
- She didn’t think twice about sending her taxpayer-financed mailing not just to current constituents, but to prospective constituents. The letters went to would-be voters in Nuxoll’s redrawn legislative district.
- She didn’t think about how it would look — weeks before the May 15 GOP primary election — if she sent 1,700 letters exclusively to Republicans.

Question (for District 7 voters): Do you plan to vote for a state senator from Cottonwood who uses your tax dollars to campaign?
