Runners Come In All Shapes, Sizes
Kathy Hedberg, my former Lewiston Tribune colleague, has started a blog, Camas Prairie Home Companion. This is her first post:
“The thing I like best about long-distance races — especially in metropolitan areas — is
that you get to see for yourself that a lot of the people who participate are not jocks, not Olympic wannabes and not former high school track stars looking to relive their glory days.
Such was the case when my daughter, Suzanna, her friend, Julie, and I ran the Orange County half marathon Sunday, May 6. We started the 13.1 mile event at 6:15 a.m. at Fashion Island at Newport Beach, ran along the Pacific coast, past multi-million dollar homes where folks sat out on their sidewalks in their pajamas, drinking coffee and cheering us on and ended at the Orange County fairgrounds a couple hours later. It was a perfect day for running — in the 60s — and by the time we were finished the sun was breaking through the mist and it was turning into a gorgeous Southern California tempter.”
More here.
Question (for those who participate in long-distance races): What do you notice most about the races?
