Taryn: Who Made That Kid Cry?

Taryn Hecker: I want to know how they got that kid to cry. Somebody must have pinched him or something. Maybe they told him there was no Santa Claus, but those look like real tears. Creative? Yes. Over the top? Yes. I just hope no kid was hurt in the making of that campaign piece. There has been a pretty interesting mix of campaign mailings this election. A candidate that compares himself to Wyatt Earp is ballsy at the very least. But if a candidate proves to be as legendary as Wyatt Earp, the plus side is Kurt Russell could play him in a movie. And then there’s the mailing that has a picture of a mobile home on the front and captioned “Trailer Parks.” I can’t tell if this is pro or anti-trailer park. Either way, trailer park people vote, too, and there aren’t

Question: Taryn begins by discussing that Ed Morse direct-mail ad of a kid crying that Phil Hart has taken away his school’s trees, a reference to Hart using public-lands trees to build his house. Which campaign mailing do you consider to be the most effective this primary season?
