Run district like business
No wonder the taxpayers are complaining about the ever-rising costs of education. Recently, the Spokane School District hired a new superintendent at a very high salary of $240,000 per year. That’s more than the governor is paid.
The district also paid a consulting firm to conduct a search at a cost of $42,000. I worked for a national corporation and they used to spend money bringing their managers from other locations within the company. This cost millions of dollars. When they promoted from within the local branch, if you had ambitions to move up to management from within, you had to pass their management school program before you were considered.
In a lot of cases, the assistant manager handles most of the daily workload and can replace the manager at a moment’s notice in the event of sickness or whatever. This is common sense business practice, and should have been applied in this case.
The problem with school boards is they have become too used to spending the taxpayers’ money. After all it’s not their money, is it?
