Idaho’s backroad mountain passes closing for season

WINTER TRAVEL — Idaho backroads mountain passes that hunters, hikers, anglers and other outdoor enthusiass have been using since spring are shutting down for winter.

The Shoshone County Public Works Department issued this announcement regarding the status of mountain passes in the North Idaho area.

  • Forest Highway 9 Thompson Pass Murray to Montana Line- effective next Monday (Nov. 26). Pass will be closed for Winter and not maintained.
  • King Pass- Closed not maintained for the Winter (Effective 11/20/12)
  • Forest Road 456 Moon Pass Wallace to Avery not maintained for the Winter.
    (Effective 11/20/12)
  • FR-50 Gold Cr.@Red Ives to Montana Line Closed not maintained for the Winter. (Effective 11/20/12)
