Jail time no benefit
What are the benefits of incarcerating Karl Thompson Jr.? Isn’t jail intended to rehabilitate criminals?
My heart truly goes out to Otto Zehm’s family and friends. In the line of duty, Thompson made a decision based on information available to him at the time. It was a tragic mistake, but the decision was not made with criminal intent.
Thompson has lived an honorable life and is well-respected by his fellow police officers. His decision cost him his livelihood; he was crucified in the media, and he will live with regret for the rest of his life. I fail to understand how Thompson or the public will benefit from his time in jail.
