DOTC: Why So Few Debates?

Dan English, candidate for House District 2 seat now held by controversial Rep. Phil Hart comments: The other very odd silence I wonder about is the the almost complete lack of debates this year. With the most contested field of candidates in over a decade where EVERY legislative position has candidates from both parties I would have thought my calendar would have been awash with debates and forums. The only one I am aware of is the event sponsored this afternoon and evening by the Coeur Group. I am very thankful they at least are putting one on even if we are competing with that other “Second Tier” debate, you know, between those VP guys. We have one in Spirit Lake this Saturday but it got changed to a “meet and greet” instead. Again, I appreciate even that but can’t for the life of me figure out why no one seems to be interested in the traditional head-to-head match-ups.

  • DFO: I’ve been wondering the same thing. Why are things so dead this fall re: local races? The Democrats have put up opposition. Yet no one seems focused on legislative/county/sheriff races.

Question (from Dan English): So any thoughts on why the usual list of Granges, groups, and party affiliated organizations aren’t having ANY debates?
