In a subsequent comment, NIC Trustee/police spokeswoman Christie Wood adds a noteworthy comment why she decided to quit the local Republican Party:
My point is that it is not fun anymore. Instead of working to better our community or Country together we are ripping each other apart over party affiliation and hard line belief systems. I am not saying anything new here. We all know this is happening. So I am OUT. I will still work hard in my non-partisan position to set up students for success. That is a pleasure to be a part of.
DFO:
I completely agree that local Republican hardliners and their standard bearers, like state Sen. Kathy Sims, are behind much of the turmoil that has targeted nonpartisan positions in Coeur d’Alene, from setting up ideologues on the City Council, to stacking the School Board with more of the same, to attempting to overthrow popular Mayor Sandi Bloem and three quality council members. It’s time that the community pushes back against attempts to transform Lake City politics into a mirror image of the group-think Idaho Legislature. It’s more important to be right than Far Right in our viewtiful community.
