Body Of Arson-Suicide Victim ID’d
Kootenai County sheriff’s investigators have identified John H. Parkin, 45, as the man who set his home on fire
and then killed himself last Friday on Searchlight Lane in the Wolf Lodge area. Parkin had been served a temporary protection order and ordered to move out of his residence pending a hearing about 12:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 7). Deputies had escorted Parkin. About 2:15 p.m., sheriff’s deputies received a call of a violation of the protection order indicating that Parkin had returned to the residence. Investigators have confirmed that Parkin started the modular home on fire then shot himself while in the residence. His remains were badly burned before firefighters could recover the body. The sheriff’s office will be closing the case.
