Noon: Erickson Returns To Preps

Dennis Erickson has seen plenty of highs and lows in the world of football. But the veteran coach says he hasn’t had this much fun in a long time. Erickson has spent the last week on the practice field with the South Albany High football program as a volunteer assistant. His son, Bryce, is the Rebels’ first-year head coach. “This is back to the roots of coaching right here,” Erickson said Wednesday as South prepared for Friday’s season opener at McKay in Salem. “Just seeing them improve and get better is what it’s all about”/ Jesse Sowa , Albany Democrat-Herald. More here. (Mark Yien AP/Albany Democrat Herald photo: Erickson instructs South Albany receiver Trenton Webb while helping out his son Bryce’s team at South Albany High School in Albany, Ore.)

DFO: I’ve coached sports for decades since age 16, quitting about a dozen years ago — baseball (Pony League), men’s softball (in three states) and girls’ softball (for 3 years, toughest gig of them all). My teams have won softball titles in three states. Also won one Pony League title. Much fan. But in rear-view mirror now. How about you?

Question: Have you ever coaches? Which sports?
