Business has red tape, too

The Spokesman-Review’s Sept. 17 edition included a cartoon portraying a crushed U. S. businessman, seemingly squashed under “Regulations.”

The image reminded me of my recent credit union experience when innocently opening a savings account for a grandchild. At the conclusion of my meeting with the credit union representative, I was given to take home no fewer than 17 typed pages, including four pages of yields and fees, seven pages of Account Agreement and Disclosure, a one-page Regulation CC Funds Availability Disclosure and five pages of Regulation E Disclosure.

None of the 17 pages included my signature. My point is that the business community is not the only entity within our economy squashed under regulations. So, too, are grandfathers opening a $500 savings account for a grandchild.
