Spokane Junior Rifle Team sets open house for new shooters

Amanda Furrer of Spokane was 17 and a member of the U.S. National Shooting Team when she was aiming at her first U.S. Olympic trials in May 2008. She just missed going to the Beijing Olympics. Furrer held six national junior shooting records as a high school junior before graduating from Mead High School in 2009. In June 2012, after graduating from Ohio State University, she won a place on the U.S. Olympic Shooting Team headed for the Summer Games in London. (Rich Landers)

SHOOTING – The Spokane Junior Rifle Team, which has produced several Olympic team shooters over the years — including Amanda Furrer in the 2012 London Games — is having an open house for youths interested in the shooting program, 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Spokane Rifle Club , 6411 Aubrey L. White Parkway at the end of Rifle Club Road.

Coach Mike Furrer has helped develop an air rifle program to introduce youths to competitive marksmanship.
