Rest of immigrant story

In the July 27 paper was an article on Seth Holmes, an author in town for a reading. It told us of the plight of a group of undocumented immigrants whom we don’t know about. These are the ones, he says, that get injuries, diseases, poor pay, no social services, no taxes back and finally, no thanks.

I worked intimately with undocumented immigrants in California for 20 years. I worked with them in the field. I knew each of their personal situations and, on occasion, helped them. They did get welfare. They did get food stamps. They did get rental subsidies. They did get energy assistance. They got free medical care. They got free school supplies, food, kitchen items, bedding, etc., from the various food and supply banks (which were originally for our citizens).

They got all of their income taxes back when they filed. With their fake IDs, they bought cars and homes and were able to move freely throughout our nation unchecked. Has that improved?
