City To Consider Shutting Front
Huckleberries hears …
That tonight’s City Council agenda will include a discussion of closing front permanently between 2nd Street and 3rd Street, which in essence makes it a private driveway for the resort. It would allow The Coeur d’Alene resort to traverse roadway with their delivery truck and buses. But through traffic would not be allowed. A Berry Picker tells Huckleberries: “This will make it necessary to turn 3rd Street, from Front to Sherman, into a two way street. Requires a revamp (expensive) to 3rd from Sherman to Front. The rationale is that they will be able to make the centennial trail hookup wider through there. Originally resort officials offered to pay for it. But have since changed their mind and the whole thing will have to be paid for by the city. They do have a 200K LID for their share and they say that should pay for it. Closing the street passed the council 5 to 1 last spring in a fairly quiet meeting at the old council chambers. The public has no idea that this is happening. … It makes it more difficult for access to the boat ramp and front street. Could make it easier to close the boat ramp in the future. It is a future traffic nightmare.”
Question: Would you support closing Front Avenue, from 2nd Street to 3rd Street?
