McMorris takes tough questions

I read Shawn Vestal’s critical comments (Aug. 16) regarding United States Rep. Cathy McMorris Rogers’ visit to various towns and events while she is in this district during the current congressional recess. In fact, I had just attended a “Coffee with Cathy” gathering in Colfax that very morning.

Although it was not billed as a town hall forum, I can assure you it was not a staged event that “pretended to gather input.” She answered complex questions for over an hour and a half from an audience with vastly different points of view. There was no effort to screen any of the participants.

She heard the thoughts and concerns of her constituents regarding a variety of tough subjects covering all aspects of the federal government. I think Vestal might have been surprised at the scope and complexity of the questions and her straight-forward and thoughtful answers.

McMorris Rogers has great passion for the future of this country but is highly aware of the critical problems we are facing. She is striving to help build the framework for lasting solutions and continues to be a strong voice for this congressional district.
