Defensive weapons advised
Regarding the Nov. 21 Spokesman-Review item, “GU to discuss guns after discipline”:
It’s fine that our favorite Catholic institution is keeping an open mind on this matter. In this discussion, it’s hoped that those in attendance will remember the words Jesus told his disciples at the Last Supper. What words the rabboni spoke, his students might have simply taken as advice. I’m inclined to think it was more of an order to them. In either case, it bears repeating to those who follow him today, including religious organizations who ought to let the Holy Scriptures guide and direct their actions.
Luke 22:36 reads “… and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.”
For his own protection while walking about, this writer carries a wooden cane or a 9-iron club as his “sword.” I have no beef with those who choose other more lethal swords, nor should Gonzaga University.
