KerriT: R-E-S-P-E-C-T Mother Nature

And now a word from KerriT re: our cold snap:

After watching the national news stories about the weather around the country, I’m thinking we’ve got it pretty good. Cold, but good. I lived in North Dakota (Bert’s homeland) for several years and the weather is often a matter of life and death. People respect the winter weather and are prepared. Keep your car’s gas tank either topped off but definitely over the half way mark. Toss a blanket and some extra winter outerwear, dry socks and a second pair of boots into the back seat for emergencies. R-E-S-P-E-C-T Mother Nature and heed any recommendations from law enforcement about travel.

Question: I once cross-country skied with another fool a few miles around the eastern edge of Glacier National Park, to view a bridge that had been knocked out by an avalanche. We got caught by a ranger who asked us whether we knew how to read warning signs. He didn’t cite us. But I’ve often thought that was one of the dumbest things I’ve done during an Inland Northwest winter. Have you done something stupid — and risky — too?
