City Mulls Curbside Garbage Fee Hike

A proposed fee increase in Coeur d’Alene for curbside garbage pickup which includes single stream recycling will be considered by the City Council next Tuesday. Despite increasing costs of labor and hauling, the city held off on increasing fees over the past three years during tight economic times, said Coeur d’Alene Finance Director Troy Tymesen. Garbage pickup is done weekly and single stream recycling occurs every other week. There are three cart size options for garbage (35 gallon, 64 gallon and 96 gallon). New monthly rate proposal (which includes garbage and recycling):

  • 35-gallon cart: $7.70 to $8.60
  • 64-gallon cart: $8.80 to $9.70
  • 96 gallon cart: $9.60 to $10.50

The last garbage fee increase in Coeur d’Alene was in 2011. Prior to that rates had not increased since 2008, Tymesen said/ Keith Erickson , Coeur d’Alene Today.

Question: Do you consider this fee increase to be warranted?
