Prop. 2 is not democracy

City Council President Ben Stuckart was absolutely correct when he said Proposition 2 is “politics at its worst.” Requiring a two-thirds vote on any tax issue hands the power to a minority.

When we start implementing a two-thirds rule, it’s the holdouts in the middle that gain all the control. The majority becomes hostage to the demands of the few who can use their votes to wield power where they didn’t have it before. There are enough games played in politics today without adding this tomfoolery to our City Council.

Our country was founded on the idea that to win took 50 percent plus one. That’s democracy.
