Drawing wrong conclusion

The Jan. 20 political cartoon by Michael Ramirez illustrating the president saying, “The first task as a society is to keep our children safe … because someone needs to pay our bills.” At the bottom is a child holding a sign saying “NATIONAL DEBT.” The depiction of this manner of reasoning suggesting the only motivation for protection of children is for chattel is repugnant.

His hypocrisy on the serious issue of national debt is indicated by his continued lack of comments on many useless giveaways, such as Congress not funding two unnecessary wars, ordering military items that the Pentagon does not want and the recent giveaway to the world’s largest biotech company.

A newspaper has a civic responsibility to the community. The Spokesman-Review editorial board has lost any pretense of objectivity. With no sense of balance on issues, it now simply panders to its own ideology.

Having observed the results of automatic weapons on human flesh, I urge Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and any Congress member that might vote against banning civilian automatic weapons and large clips to view graphic, detailed photos of the children these weapons have been used on.

Vote your conscience, not lobby money.
