Bloem Disputes Person Field Rumor

  • Huckleberries: Trustee Ann Seddon said at the recent School Board meeting that you told her that the city doesn’t need the other half of Person Field. Is that true?
  • Sandi Bloem: No.
  • Huckleberries: What did you tell her?
  • Sandi Bloem: Ann & I had a discussion during a break at the last council meeting. She was passionate about Person’s staying as green space. I agreed. I told her that the council was concerned that we had a $650,000 value for Person Field. I urged continued negotiations to get there. I did say there were some citizens who felt a better value would be to use the $650,000 to create a neighborhood park on the city’s half. And some of the council figure that we should get the school district property for free because the city originally owned it. I felt we left the conversation both feeling that we needed to work for a good settlement for both sides in the negotiations. I do believe now — and will continue to believe — that Person Field should remain public space.
  • Huckleberries : When will the negotiations continue?
  • Sandi Bloem: Thursday at 5 o’clock in the library community room. A workshop between the School District and the council has been set. The meeting is open to the public and will be televised.
