Huckleberries Hears …
… The Coeur d’Alene council members have received copies of the resolution by the Kootenai County GOP Central Committee that asks them to repeal their recent 5-1 approval of the antidiscrimination ordinance. The new city law extends human rights protections to gays in the area of housing, employment and services. Last week, when asked by a Coeur d’Alene Press reporter re: the action by the Central Committee, Councilman Dan Gookin said: “They have no business stepping on our toes telling us to repeal an ordinance, it’s way out of line.” Gookin called the resolution a sign of “dysfunction. They have no political power whatsoever, but for some reason they think they do.” Gookin goes on to say that his support for the ordinance surprised a good portion of his base, but he doesn’t fret re: any political push back. As for the KCRCC, Gookin said, “They somehow think they’re more important than they are.”
Question: Do you think the City Council will give much consideration to the Kootenai County GOP CC resolution?
