Native: CdA Not That Conservative

NativeCDA: You know, I really think that the hard right…Reagan Republicans in particular…overestimate how conservative the majority of the people are in Coeur d Alene. They nabbed some seats in public elections when the majority of people weren’t really paying attention. I don’t think their brand of conservatism is as welcome here as they seem to think….outside of the Fedora sound chamber that is.

DFO: NativeCdA has touched on a point that I’ve made many times. I don’t think Coeur d’Alene is as conservative as the Post Falls area and northern Kootenai County. The spring Coeur d’Alene School Board election proved that. The fact that so many of the Coeur d’Alene detractors don’t live here — Jeff Ward & Ron Lahr, of Reagan Republicans, come to mine — is another indication that the grass-roots move to insert partisan politics into nonpartisan elections comes from the outside. Yeah, yeah, Mary Souza, Kathy Sims, Frank Orzell & Co. live here. But they have been bashing on local government for years. Having said all this, I still think there are enough ultraconservatives in Coeur d’Alene to enable Reagan Republican/United Conservatives of North Idaho to grab offices when city residents aren’t paying attention.

Question: Do you think Coeur d’Alene is as conservative as other areas of Kootenai County/North Idaho?
