Along The Waterfront …

I finally stopped to write down the message on the plaque near North Idaho Centennial Trail MP 14, the old “Hobo Jungle.” It reads:

During the first half of the 20th Century, hobo camps (jungles) were common in rairlroad towns thoughout the West. In Coeur d’Alene, hobos lived in a jungle of makeshift shanties between the railroad tracks and the river, near where you are standing. Oklahoma Slim, the hobo in the painting, wanted everyone to clearly understand the difference between a hobo, a tramp and a bum. “A hobo is a migratory workers; a tramp is a migratory nonworker; a bum is a nonmigratory nonworker.”

Question: Have you known a hobo or a tramp or a bum?
