Red herring on guns
I read the May 27 letter by Alexander Moses where he argues that if all guns are taken away only criminals have guns. He proposes if someone broke into your house, would you rather come down the stairs “with a gun or a broomstick.”
I don’t know where he even gets an idea like this. The question is if you come down with a rifle or an Uzi.
What I hear from the National Rifle Association is that the question right now is rifle or Uzi, but the other side really wants all guns. It is the “slippery slope” argument. Sometimes, there really is a metaphorical slippery slope.
For example, do I want universal health care and hope Obamacare leads to this? Sure. But do I want to take your guns? No, and I don’t think most people do.
