Tax law is warped

I am writing to support Pete Scobby’s letter of May 25 about the so-called Internal Revenue Service scandal. Scobby is correct in questioning why we as a society allow purely political right-wing organizations to claim tax exemption as so-called “charities.”

The great majority of these organizations applying for the exemption are seeking to influence public at the behest of well-heeled, anonymous contributors. The only exercise of free speech involved is the freeloading involved in attempting to deceive us – the public – at our own expense.

In the congressional hue and cry, no one in the press or Congress seems to be questioning whether the application of the warped tax laws is being appropriately applied, or why they were enacted in the first place.
