Power outage in downtown Cda

COEUR d’ALENE — The circle of life put Coeur d’Alene Avista customers in the dark Thursday afternoon, when an osprey building a nest knocked out power to more than 2,000 homes.

The osprey apparently dropped a stick on a power line by the Coeur d’Alene resort, Avista spokeswoman Debbie Simock said. The outage was reported at 1:57 p.m. and power was restored at 2:37 p.m. Avista reports 2,281 customers were without power.

Crews were working on the line when the bird dropped the stick, Simock said. Otherwise the system should have quickly recovered from the impact.

“Because the crew had been working on the line, they had to go out and visually inspect the line to see what the problem was,” she said.

Huckleberries hears that county employees were sent home. Guess they couldn’t wait for the 35 minutes it took for the power to return?

Anyone out else out there affected by the outage?
