It’s Official … Gonzaga’s No. 1

For the first time in school history, the Gonzaga men’s basketball team sits atop the college basketball rankings. The Zags are No. 1 in The Associated Press’ Top 25, replacing Indiana. The Hoosiers, who have been ranked No. 1 for a total of 10 weeks this season, lost at Minnesota last Tuesday. Gonzaga beat BYU at Provo on Thursday and finished the West Coast Conference regular season undefeated (16-0) with an 81-52 win over Portland at home on Saturday. The Bulldogs (29-2 overall) were No. 2 last week and also hit that mark for the final two weeks of 2003-04. Gonzaga’s next game will be in the semifinals of the WCC tournament on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN2/ SR.
