Elderberries — 25 years ago

I wrote this Huckleberry on March 7, 1988 (above, Ray and Betty Stone from an SR file photo taken by Kathy Plonka in 2010):

What happens if an outsider tries to infiltrate the Democratic caucuses Tuesday? asked one worried party member at the Democratic Club luncheon Friday. You mean Ron Rankin trying to cast his support for extremist Lyndon LaRouche? responded president Bob Brown? No, said George Lyman, “I was thinking about the mayor.” In February Mayor Ray Stone, a badly back-slidden Democrat, attended the Republicans’ Lincoln Day Dinner and shunned his party’s “Tell It Like It Is” Saturday morning forum in favor of one featuring Republical legislators. Some view Stone’s friendliness with the town’s Republican power base as evidence that he will seek re-election.”

Question: How many remember Ray Stone’s eight years as mayor?
