er dropping out of college three years earlier, a semester in which I was taking 21 credit hours (I wound up with 6 A’s and 1 B+). My numeric grade was 6/10ths of a point shy of an A, I asked him to round it up so I could have a 4.0. He replied,”Math is a science of exactness, you got exactly a B+.” I was undeservedly irate at the time, but came to understand and accept that: A — Facts are facts, B — Sometimes the answer is No. C — You can’t always get what you want. Years later, I was able to apply this lesson to raising two wonderful children.
