CSD: Handelman Qualified For Job

Huckleberries received this response from Coeur d’Alene School District spokeswoman Laura Rumpler after comments on Huckleberries questioning Matt Handelman’s qualifications to serve as interim superintendent after Hazel Bauman leaves for a new job in Washington July 1:

Matthew Handelman completed the Superintendent Certification Program through Washington State University in 2007, years before he applied for the Associate Superintendent position with CdA Public Schools.  Additionally he holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Lewis and Clark College, a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, Cum Laude from Amherst College; and completed the Danforth Educational Leadership Principal Certification Program at the University of Washington. Handelman received the Dick Stinnard Distinguished Elementary Principal of the Year 2007-2008 award.  Moran Prairie Elementary also received the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2006 under Handelman’s leadership. Matt was overqualified for the Associate Superintendent position when he was hired by our district in 2010.  His credentials, at that time, and currently set him up for a school district superintendency position.

Question: Sounds to me as though Handelman’s qualified to handle the interim job. Thoughts?
