Amber: PACs Don’t Help Debate
On her Facebook page, City Council candidate Amber Copeland posts:
“I can honestly say that this election has been an eye opening
experience. I feel that the amount of dollars spent is frighteningly high for a municipal election. With the two major PACs offering up a prepackaged slate of candidates I worry about the future of this city. If either one of these slates find wins for all four of their candidates tomorrow I fear that this tipping of the scales will ruin any chance for fairness and true representation in our local government. Ideally I would like to see a city council elected who disagrees with each other. This forces every new idea and decision to be vetted thoroughly and presented wholly. When the council is diverse, it creates an environment where council members have to really fight for their stances and prove their validity.”
Question: Have the PACs made it impossible for independent candidates to win Coeur d’Alene council seats?
