Christian values questioned

As we approach Thanksgiving and the temperatures drop to the teens, my mind turns to being grateful for having a home and food on the table. I also start to wonder if our community leaders are presenting a good example of what Christ taught?

Would He have set up an ordinance that penalizes homeless people for accepting money from passing cars? Would He have taken food out of the expectant mouths of children by slashing food stamps (while maintaining the millions in subsidies to agribusiness)? Would He have created an atmosphere of intolerance and heartlessness towards the working poor by blaming them for their plight?
