Randy: Hydros Have Small Following
Randy Myers:
This series is like an on the water NASCAR. The problem is the following is nowhere near as large. No one (well very few) know the drivers and the history or how the points are going. I think it’s
reasonable to expect a low demand sport to have a low demand for ticket sales. Perhaps if they made it more of a show …have vendor booths and sell T shirts and memorabilia ? I just don’t see it myself. My only interest would be to take a few pictures. I could care less about who wins etc. I also don’t understand the expenses fully. Do the hydroplanes have a guarantee or is most of the money prize money ? Once you have the buoys and signs that expense should be minimal in the future. Naturally there is advertising and printing expense. How much does the staff make ? Mr. Miller ? When I heard Mr. Hagadone had donated 100k I couldn’t imagine expenses being much more.
Question: Would you rather watch hydroplane racing, NASCAR racing or a rodeo? Randy makes a good point that few know hydroplane drivers or understand the history or the point leaders.
