DFO: Typical Reagan Repub Tactic

I’ve thought a lot about the snarky attack that City Council candidate Chris Fillios made on Amy Evans during the Coeur Group debate a few weeks ago. He called her a “liberal progressive.” This, after she said that he was a nice man. I’m not sure what “liberal progressive” means to a Reagan Republican endorsee. (Aren’t we all “libruls” but the Reagan Republicans?)  But I’m learning about Evans’ background as a doer. She’s helped save Sorensen School. She’s tackled 2 Coeur d’Alene Ironmans and was a volunteer Ironman leader in other years. She helped raise $50,000 for cancer research. She helped form Coeur d’Alene Education Partnership. She serves on the city planning commission. If that’s what a “progressive liberal” is, we need more of them rather than less. Instead, Fillios follows up in a fund-raising newsletter by trying to attach Evans to President Obama. Which is right out of the Reagan Republican playbook. Call the other guy a “librul” and attach them to the great Idaho boogeyman, President Barack Obama. It has worked before in local races in ruby red Kootenai County. I’m sure we’ll get flyers and newspaper ads from the four Reagan Republican candidates for Coeur d’Alene municipal offices in which the other side is painted as “libruls” and Obama followers. So we have a fresh face in city politics like Evans who has already accomplished much in community service — and someone trying to beat her down by the typical Reagan Republican name-calling. The question is: Do you want another automatic no vote to join Gookin and Adams on the council — or someone who will continue moving Coeur d’Alene into the 21st century?/ DFO .

Thoughts?
